個展「民が」図録
本展は、日常の営みとして受け継がれてきた日本の行事や信仰、風習に込められた祈りや願い。それらに通底する「民」の感性を現代の視点から掘り起こします。
テラダはこれまで、古い史料に残された風景や記述、また漢字という表意文字の構造と詩性のあいだに身を置き、かたちと意味の境界を探るように作品を制作してきました。本展では、盆踊りの起源に想を馳せ、型を持たない原初の舞を自由な身体の動きとして描いた《ODOLI》を軸に、顔をもたぬ群像=「民」の姿を多様な形式で表現します。 それは歴史や制度の中で埋もれがちな集合の記憶や声なき声を現代において可視化しようとする抵抗であり、同時にわたしたち一人ひとりの身体に刻まれた無意識の記憶への接続でもあります。
一初は本展を通じて、観る人の内に眠る「日本」の感覚が呼び覚まされ、過去と現在、個と集団、可視と不可視のあいだに新たな風景が立ち現れ る契機となることを願っております。

Catalog for the Solo Exhibition “Tami-ga”
This exhibition explores the prayers and wishes embedded in Japanese ceremonies, beliefs, and customs that have been passed down as part of daily life. It unearths the sensibilities of “the people” that underlie these traditions from a contemporary perspective.
Terada has long created works that position himself between the landscapes and descriptions found in ancient historical records and the structure and poetic quality of kanji—ideographic characters—in an effort to explore the boundary between form and meaning. Centered on *ODOLI*—a work that reflects on the origins of Bon Odori and depicts the primal, formless dance as free bodily movement—this exhibition expresses the figure of the faceless collective, “the people,” through diverse forms. This represents an act of resistance aimed at visualizing, in the present day, the collective memories and voiceless cries that tend to be buried within history and institutions; at the same time, it serves as a connection to the unconscious memories etched into each of our bodies.
Through this exhibition, Ippatsu hopes to awaken the sense of “Japan” that lies dormant within viewers, creating an opportunity for new landscapes to emerge between the past and the present, the individual and the collective, and the visible and the invisible.
